I love classic wooden yachts, there is something about the grace of them that is compelling. Designed through experience rather than science with looks being as important as performance. They do have disadvantage though. The sometimes unispiring performance (perhaps especially to windward) might make them suitable for an occasional treat rather than your regular boat. There is also the aspect of maintenance. Whereas a modern GRP yacht will take a certain amount of neglect and still be functional, the same treatment could render a classic yacht unseaworthy.
